Michael Mason, Jazz Flutist, records for the Chicago based independent jazz label "Southport Records".  He has recorded 3 compact disc projects, "EXPLORATION" in 1997 of all original material, "DELUGE" in 1993 and "VISIONARY" in 1995 which is a 9 song tribute to the legendary John Coltrane.

Michael Mason has studied with Joseph Zerov of the Chicago Lyric Orchestra, Janet Bergman of the St. Louis Symphony, Donald Peck of DePaul University School of Music, Wilfred Kujala of the Northwestern University School of Music, Jean Pierre Rampal and William Bennett.

Michael Mason has performed with James Newton, of Blue Note and Audioquest Records, and has led off for Arturo Sandoval of GRP / Impulse and Stanley Jordan of Blue Note Records.  His major musical influences besides James Newton, have been Eric Dolphy, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Yuseef Lateef, Sun Ra and the AACM. 

Michael Mason receives airplay from College/University, Jazz and National Public Radio stations across the country.  He has performed at Jazz Festivals around the world, the NACA (National Association of Campus Activities) regional and National Mainstage and Performing Arts Showcases.

Michael Mason is available for College and University Performances, Artist-In-Residency Programs, Clinics, Workshops, Individualized Improvisation Teaching, Concerts and Recording Sessions for all Jazz Performances.
